1 Timothy 6

Instructions to Those Who Minister

1 aAll who are under the yoke as slaves are to regard their own masters as worthy of all honor so bthat the name of God and our doctrine will not be
Or blasphemed
spoken against.
2Those who have believers as their masters must not be disrespectful to them because they are dbrethren, but must serve them all the more, because those who
Or devote themselves to kindness
partake of the benefit are believers and beloved. fTeach and
Lit exhort, urge
preach these principles.

3If anyone hadvocates a different doctrine and does not
Lit come to; or come with
agree with jsound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine kconforming to godliness,
4he is lconceited and understands nothing; but he
Lit is sick about
has a morbid interest in ncontroversial questions and odisputes about words, out of which arise envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions,
5and constant friction between pmen of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who qsuppose that
Or religion
godliness is a means of gain.
6 sBut godliness actually is a means of tgreat gain when accompanied by ucontentment. 7For vwe have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. 8If we whave food and covering, with these we shall be content. 9 xBut those who want to get rich fall into temptation and ya snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. 10For zthe love of money is a root of all
Lit the evils
sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have abwandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

11But acflee from these things, you adman of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, aefaith, aflove,
Or steadfastness
perseverance and gentleness.
12 ahFight the good fight of aifaith; ajtake hold of the eternal life akto which you were called, and you made the good alconfession in the presence of ammany witnesses. 13 anI charge you in the presence of God, who
Or preserves alive
gives life to all things, and of apChrist Jesus, who testified the aqgood confession arbefore Pontius Pilate,
14that you keep the commandment without stain or reproach until the asappearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15which He will
Lit show
bring about at authe proper time— He who is avthe blessed and awonly Sovereign, axthe King of
Lit those who reign as kings
kings and azLord of
Lit those who rule as lords
lords,
16 bbwho alone possesses immortality and bcdwells in unapproachable light, bdwhom no man has seen or can see. beTo Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.

17Instruct those who are rich in bfthis present world bgnot to be conceited or to bhfix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, biwho richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. 18Instruct them to do good, to be rich in bjgood
Or deeds
works, blto be generous and ready to share,
19 bmstoring up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may bntake hold of that which is life indeed.

20O boTimothy, guard bpwhat has been entrusted to you, avoiding bqworldly and empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely calledknowledge”— 21which some have professed and thus brgone astray
Lit concerning
from btthe faith.

buGrace be with you.
